Maybe this is a dumb question, but would it be possible to use a Maschine Mk1 to trigger the samples?

It should work fine as a standard MIDI controller. Connect a 5-pin MIDI cable from the MIDI out port on the Maschine Mk1 to the MIDI in port on the SamplerBox.
