Given that my application will require a good quality output, is the cheap DAC recommended suitable?
USB DAC PCM2704

In Australia, where's the best place to get these?
Sparkfun 7-segment
Sparkfun microUSB breakout

I'm in Australia too :) I've ordered a couple of things from Sparkfun in the past and it's taken longer to receive items than things I've ordered from Asia. Maybe have a look on Aliexpress - although I can't say what the Sparkfun 7-segment and microUSB equivalents would be. Or if you want to go local: https://littlebirdelectronics.com.au
